There is no one city center in Almaty, and it isn’t right to say that an exact district is the city center. However, people visiting the city for the first time, go to the “square”. It is a real square which includes such streets as Furmanov-Tole bi-Seifullin-Satpayev. It will take about 28 minutes. You can go by a taxi, but it will be better and cheaper if you call it. Never use the taxi services near the airport, if you don’t want to overpay for 1000 or even 2000 KZT. Use can download apps as Uber or Indriver.
Also you can use busses №3, 79, 86, and it takes about an hour to arrive to the “square”.
You can use metro, which has been working since 2011 and has 9 stations. It starts from Furmanov street (the first station is Raiymbek batyr) to Abay avenue (the last station is “Moskva”).
