How to buy train tickets in Kazakhstan
You can buy train tickets online or at the station ticket offices. The price of the train varies depending on the railway car. Railway cars are divided into three types: sitting, reserved seats and compartments.
In a sitting car, there are free-standing upholstered chairs with armrests. The car resembles the cabin of an airplane or intercity bus, but there is much more space. It is better to take a ticket in a sitting car when the trip lasts several hours.
The second-class car is the most popular type of car because of the low price of tickets. The car has 54 seats — 9 compartments with 6 beds. Two upper, two lower and two side ones. There are no doors between the compartments, and all of them are connected by a common corridor.
A compartment car usually has 32 or 36 seats, divided into compartments of four seats each. There are cars with 38 seats, where seats 37-38 — a double compartment. The lower places are odd, and the upper places are even. Compartments are isolated from each other and locked. There are folding chairs in the common corridor.
