How to Get from Tashkent to Samarkand by Train, Bus, and Taxi

Tashkent and Samarkand are two of Uzbekistan’s main tourist cities, with both locals and travelers frequently moving between them. The distance is about 300 kilometers, and the journey takes from two to five hours depending on the mode of transport. There are several ways to travel — from high-speed trains to budget buses. Here are the main options with prices, travel time, and key details.

Train — the fastest option, Uzbekistan Railways

The most convenient and popular way to travel between the cities. Uzbekistan Railways trains run several times a day, including high-speed services. Travel time is from about two and a half hours on high-speed trains and around three hours on regular ones.

Ticket prices range from $11 to $34 depending on the class and type of train. It’s recommended to buy tickets in advance, especially during high season.

This is the best option if you’re looking for a fast and comfortable way to get from Tashkent to Samarkand.

Bus — the most budget-friendly option, UZ Trans

Buses depart from Tashkent Bus Terminal and arrive at Samarkand Central Bus Station. Travel time is around four hours. Services run regularly, approximately every hour.

The schedule is available at Tashkent Bus Terminal, and tickets can be purchased via AvtoTicket.

The cost is about $7 per person.

This is the cheapest way to get from Tashkent to Samarkand and is suitable for those who want to save money and are not in a hurry.

Taxi — convenient and flexible

Taxis are a popular option for a direct trip without transfers. Travel time is around four to five hours.

You can book a ride via Yandex Taxi or with private drivers.

The cost ranges from $27 to $35 per car one way. If you share the ride, the price per person will be lower.

This option is ideal for those who value comfort, flexibility, and the ability to make stops along the way.

Summary:

— train: the fastest and most convenient option, about 2-3 hours

— bus: the most budget-friendly option, about 4 hours

— taxi: a comfortable and flexible option, 4-5 hours
