Favorite traditions of Tashkent residents: weddings, holidays, and special rituals

Each region of Uzbekistan is renowned for its unique traditions, particularly when it comes to wedding ceremonies and holidays. This article highlights the key customs of Tashkent, from significant wedding rituals to festive traditions.

Wedding Traditions

Kiev Navkar

This ritual takes place before the main wedding ceremony. The groom travels to the bride's house with loud music playing, announcing the upcoming wedding. At the bride's house, the groom and his friends are treated to festive pilaf.

Kelin Salom

This tradition varies by region, but in Tashkent, it occurs on the main celebration day. The bride bows to all the guests at the celebration. Afterward, there is an exchange of gifts between the families of the groom and bride. The bride is also seated with a small child on her lap, accompanied by wishes for her to have children soon.

Navruz

Usyma

In nearly every region of the country, women dye their eyebrows with the juice of the usyma herb. In Tashkent, this tradition is practiced during the celebration of the arrival of spring.

Khayit

Kush Tili

In honor of the holiday, sweet treats made from flour and eggs are prepared. After frying, they are dusted with powdered sugar and shared with friends, family, and neighbors.
The table also features traditional borsak and chak-chak.
