About me

I earned my degree in Business Administration from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Studying in China was an unexpected turn for me — I was selected for the Bolashak scholarship program and moved within just a few weeks, even though I had already started studying at KIMEP University.

After returning to Kazakhstan, I began my career at a national company, then moved on to local banks. My work focused on interactions with foreign investors and partners, which helped me develop business communication skills and gain a deep understanding of financial processes and international cooperation.

My career at AIFC

I joined AIFC in 2020, just days before the lockdown began. Due to the pandemic, I met many of my colleagues in person only a year later. It was an unusual experience—learning a new job while working remotely.

My main role is to provide informational support to AIFC participant companies as well as to those considering joining. Together with my team, we help them navigate key processes, explaining the opportunities and advantages of working within our ecosystem.

What makes the job special

Working at AIFC is dynamic and constantly evolving. I’m always learning something new, from regulatory nuances and the application of English law in Kazakhstan’s context to the specifics of different companies and their growth opportunities.

But what I value most is the people. AIFC is full of not just professionals but also wonderful individuals who make collaboration both productive and enjoyable. Our team is always ready to support each other, discuss challenges, and find the best solutions together.

Why I chose AIFC

AIFC attracted me because it was a completely new field for both Kazakhstan and the entire region. A unique ecosystem is being built here, based on the best international practices. Being part of this process is inspiring.

Working at AIFC provides access to a vast amount of knowledge on global regulatory standards, corporate governance, and finance. It’s not just professional growth — it’s a chance to contribute to shaping a new financial infrastructure for the whole Central Asian region. One of the most rewarding aspects is seeing the real impact of our work, as new companies emerge in Kazakhstan, bringing innovative solutions and bold ideas.

Key things to know about working at AIFC

You need to be ready for a fast-paced environment where things are constantly evolving. It’s not just about completing tasks — you need to be able to adapt to new challenges and find solutions.

Another key factor is the willingness to continuously learn. AIFC’s regulatory framework is based on global standards, so you must be prepared to study new approaches, quickly absorb information, and apply it in practice.

If you’re looking for more than just routine work and want to be part of creating something new, AIFC is an excellent place for growth and self-fulfillment.

Altay Slyamov, 26 years old, city — Astana, Acting Director, Authorisations Division of the Astana Financial Services Authority, linkedin

About me

I graduated from KazGUU University, now Maksut Narikbayev University with a degree in Law. During my studies, I interned at courts, arbitration centers, and private firms. Initially, I saw my future in dispute resolution, but after learning about AIFC, I realized I wanted to develop in this field instead.

I was fascinated by the fact that Kazakhstan had established a special financial zone with its own legal framework, financial regulation, and dispute resolution mechanisms. This inspired me to intern at AIFC Administration and later pursue a master's degree in International Banking and Finance Law at the University of Leeds through the Bolashak program.

My career at AIFC

I joined the Astana Financial Services Authority four years ago as an Associate of the Authorisations Division. My work was highly appreciated, leading to my promotion to senior Associate and eventually to acting director of the department.

We oversee the licensing and recognition of financial companies operating within AIFC. Licensing serves as a "gatekeeper" to AIFC’s financial market — we conduct thorough assessments of all applicants looking to engage in financial or market activities in this center.

The job requires deep knowledge of financial regulation, law, and finance, as well as a strong sense of responsibility. Our team ensures that only trustworthy companies enter AIFC.

One of the key benefits of this role is the constant opportunity to learn and interact with applicants and international regulators. We get early access to business plans, assess them, and gain insight into how different financial companies operate.

What makes the job special

AIFC employs highly skilled professionals. Every day, they interact with the market, government agencies, and international partners, requiring not only expertise but also integrity, respect, and the ability to navigate complex situations.

AIFC has ethics ambassadors to whom employees can bring ideas, suggestions, or concerns, ensuring a healthy work environment.

Moreover, AIFC offers a transparent career progression system — advancement is based on performance and achievements.

Why I chose AIFC

Even during my student years, I saw my future at AIFC. After earning my master’s degree in the UK, I was convinced that I could contribute to my country and apply my knowledge in financial regulation. Despite having other job offers, I saw a clear career path within AIFC—and I have no regrets about my choice.

Key things to know about working at AIFC

It’s important to first determine which AIFC body or organization aligns with your goals. Research its mission and objectives to understand if they match your expectations.

AIFC’s official language is English, so strong language skills are essential.

Key qualities for success include determination, perseverance, attention to detail, and the ability to process large amounts of information quickly. The financial regulatory world evolves rapidly, so adaptability is crucial.

Future plans

I plan to continue working in this field and contributing to my country’s financial sector. The world of financial regulation is constantly evolving, which motivates me to keep learning and growing professionally.

Aizhan Orakbayeva, 38 years old, Astana – Systems Analyst, IT Department of Astana International Exchange, linkedin

About me

I graduated from the Economics Faculty of KazNU in Almaty. During my fourth year, I joined the small business lending department at ATF Bank's Almaty branch. It was an exciting job, analyzing new business models every day.

I quickly climbed the career ladder—from mid-sized business lending, to department head, and later to regional manager at the head office. The projects I worked on became larger and more complex.

After four years in banking, I took a nine-year career break to focus on my family.

When I was ready to return, I wanted a fresh challenge in an international company. Around the same time, we moved to Astana, and I started job hunting. My first offer came from AIX, where I joined in 2020 as a financial analyst in the compliance department.

My career at AIX

A few months in, my managers noticed my ambition and encouraged me to take on legal analysis for issuing companies. My colleagues supported me in learning legal aspects—something I’m very grateful for.

Although I had no legal background, I learned everything from scratch in English. Two years later, I was promoted to senior manager.

Over time, I realized my passion was data analytics. I started taking IT courses, gradually shifting my focus.

Despite having a stable career, I took the risk of requesting a transfer to the IT department. My leadership supported me, even funding my education.

By February 2022, I became a systems analyst. One of my key projects was integrating AIX with a Kazakhstani bank to make IPO participation more accessible.

Future plans

I want to continue growing in IT. This field evolves quickly, so I am always learning.

I also mentor young women in tech and plan to expand these efforts, helping others just as I was once helped.
