Almaty is a city known not only for its mountains but also for its green parks, squares, and alleys. In this article, we will introduce you to 10 parks where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a walk among the trees.


Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure


Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure in Almaty is an open-access area with a wide range of entertainment options. The park offers everything for family recreation and walks: a fountain, alleys, walking paths, and a food court. For active recreation, there is an extreme park, a dinosaur park, a water park, and an amusement park. There is also a children’s playground with a train ride. The amusement park features a variety of attractions, including carousels and a Ferris wheel with a view of the city. You can also rent pedal boats here. Central Park is popular among both locals and tourists.


28 Panfilov Guardsmen Park


28 Panfilov Guardsmen Park is the most famous place in the city. It features monuments, an Eternal Flame, and the Bauyrzhan Momyshuly monument. In the center of the park stands the Ascension Cathedral, built in the 19th century. There is also a museum of musical instruments, restaurants, cafes, and the modern theater “ARTiSHOK”. Visitors can feed pigeons and see squirrels here. The park often hosts cultural events for city residents.


Botanical Garden


Botanical Garden in Almaty is a protected area. Locals call it the “lungs of the city” because it houses a collection of flora from Kazakhstan, Europe, Crimea, the Caucasus, North America, and East Asia. Here, you can breathe in the aromas of hydrangeas, magnolias, lilacs, and other flowers. At the entrance, there is a pond with lotuses, and you can also see swans and squirrels. Entry is paid.


Terrenkur


Terrenkur in Almaty, known locally as the shady "health trail," runs along the Malaya Almatinka River. Despite being near roads, you won’t hear traffic noise here. The pathway is designed for runners, cyclists, and those who want to enjoy the outdoors. The trail is 4.5 kilometers long, with a highest point of 1058 meters and a lowest point of 876 meters above sea level. The area features sports and children's playgrounds. It’s always cool here, as the tree canopies shield you from the sun. Terrenkur is a favorite spot for locals to reflect, walk with friends, relax with a book, or engage in sports and yoga.


First President park


First President park is the largest dendrological park in Almaty, covering 53 hectares. The park is perfect for jogging, photo sessions, picnics, and evening strolls. Upon entering, you’ll see a singing fountain with five basins at different levels. The main jet shoots water up to 30 meters high. Here, you can also find squirrels, swans, and ducks. More than 100 fir trees provide shady spots for relaxation and yoga. The park also features the Zheti Kazyna Garden, an observation deck, and a Japanese-style garden. There are playgrounds for children.


Fantasy World Almaty


Fantasy World Almaty is an amusement park in Almaty located in the city center. It has rides for all ages and family attractions for multiple people. There are several cafes offering fast food and full meals. Admission to the park is paid, and ticket prices include unlimited rides.


Baum Grove


Baum Grove is one of the oldest and largest parks, featuring rich flora and plenty of greenery. It’s a popular spot for walking, jogging, and cycling. There is also a special area for dog walking and training, as well as children's playgrounds and soccer fields. You can have a picnic and relax with friends in the park.


Mahatma Gandhi Park


Mahatma Gandhi Park is a favorite spot for Almaty residents. In the mornings, you can see people actively jogging, walking with Nordic poles, and cycling. The park features a dog walking and training area, as well as cafes, restaurants, and playgrounds. It’s a quiet and peaceful place to escape the hustle and bustle.


Family Park


Family Park is a family-oriented park in Almaty, located near the Saryarka metro station. It has over 30 attractions, a mini-zoo, cafes, a bowling center, go-karting for kids and adults, and a water park. The park also hosts an exhibition of military equipment, children's playgrounds, and sports areas. It’s a calm place for walks, meetings, and gatherings with family and friends.


Saken Seifullin Park


Saken Seifullin Park in Almaty is a historical site. The park features monuments, an eternal flame, officers' house, and a church. In the center, there is a small fountain. The park also has children's playgrounds and sports equipment. It’s a great place for walking, jogging, and meeting friends.
