About music
We like to call our music “afrosoul”. It’s like combining two genres, the soul music and the Afro-Ethiopian music. So it’s both in English and Amari, and also with beats and groove. It’s like a little African and a little soul, blues a little.
Aveva writes the songs and usually works with the guitar
And most of the time it’s like she just jamming until Aveva finds something that she likes and work on it, expand it until it becomes a song. And then we together compose and arrange it. We are coming to tell our stories, thoughts and beliefs. It is like where we came from, the story of my family, how we see the society and how we think, what changes we need to bring to this world.
For example, we have song talking about times we had really bad dictator, controlling them and they couldn’t live their thoughts and beliefs because they were Jewish. They were not accepted. And the songs tells about that period of time while they lived there.
About Kazakhstan
Someone from Ministry of Foreign Affairs heard about our performance in United States and Canada. We guess she heard good things. Then she invited us to come here to Kazakhstan
None of us knew anything about Kazakhstan before the invitation
We knew that it is in Central Asia. We are here for only few hours and we are curious. So, we are still exploring and experiencing new emotions.
In the airport we had little difficulties, but in the hotel I think it’s much better. Taxi driver had great energy, but it was difficult to communicate with the people. They don’t speak English. But everyone is very welcoming and very nice. City is very beautiful.
During our performance we are going to play almost all our songs. We thought a little bit of what will be more interesting for people here. We are going to bring more of our culture and Ethiopian music and sounds. Something that people doesn’t know much as like soul music.
It is too soon to say, but definitely Kazakhstan is interesting country. There are a lot to see. For example, nature, not only the city. It is a huge country. Also, coffee is very good in Kazakhstan, like in US.
