How to get from Bishkek to Almaty by plane, bus, or taxi

Bishkek and Almaty are two major cities in Central Asia with a steady flow of travelers. The distance between them is about 240 kilometers, and there are several ways to get there — ranging from a quick flight to a budget-friendly bus trip. Here are three main options, with prices, travel time, and key details.

Plane — the fastest option, Aviasales

The quickest and most comfortable way to travel. Direct flights are operated by Air Astana, with a flight time of about 55 minutes.

Round-trip tickets usually cost between 85 000 and 112 000 tenge, 15 000 to 20 000 som, or 175 to 230 dollars. Including check-in and waiting time, the total travel time is around three to four hours.

This option is ideal for those who value time and comfort.

Bus — the most budget-friendly option, tezket.kg

Buses from Bishkek to Almaty depart every two hours from 08:00 to 18:00, except 16:00.

Departure address: Almaty Street, 1/1, Bishkek.

Arrival point: Bus Station «Sayran», Almaty.

Travel time is about five hours, and tickets cost around 600 som or 7 dollars per person.

This is the most affordable way to travel. It is a good choice if you want to save money and don't mind a longer journey.

The return route may vary.

Taxi — flexible and convenient option

A popular option for those who prefer a direct, no-transfer trip. Travel time is around four to five hours.

The cost per car ranges from 35 000 to 45 000 tenge, 6 500 to 8 500 som, or 70 to 90 dollars one way. If you share the ride, the price per person is approximately 9 000–11 000 tenge, 1 600–2 000 som, or 20–23 dollars via services like easytransfer.kg.

You can also find rides on Telegram carpooling channels such as TAKSIX.

This option combines comfort with a relatively quick journey, making it particularly advantageous for group travel.

Overall, there are several ways to get from Bishkek to Almaty:

— by plane: the fastest option, about one hour

— by bus: the cheapest option, about five hours

— by taxi: a flexible and convenient option, four to five hours.
