How the Austrian Embassy supports Kazakhstani youth: educational programs and opportunities

We spoke with representatives of the Austrian Embassy to learn about the educational and cultural programs available to Kazakhstani citizens, where to find detailed information, and how participating in these initiatives can impact your career.

About the activities of the Austrian Embassy in Kazakhstan

Educational and cultural programmes are directly managed between the applicants and the universities or other relevant institutions in Austria. The Austrian Embassy in Astana is committed to facilitating the exchange of students, researchers, academics and artists as they represent an important bridge between our two countries. We assist this people-to-people exchange including by sharing information and the timely processing of visa applications for applicants from Kazakhstan. To ensure timely consideration of visa applications, participants are encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible. This includes providing all necessary documentation and information required for the visa process.


About the programs

The programs most in demand among Kazakhstani students and professionals in Austria tend to align with global trends in education and the local job market. Based on recent trends, the following fields are particularly popular: economics, law and various programs in the STEM field. Austria offers a world-class education in the heart of Europe. Many Austrian universities have been ranked in the Top 50 of QS World University Rankings 2025, including the University of Vienna, the Mozarteum University in Salzburg or the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

The Austrian Embassy in Astana engages in various outreach initiatives in the area of education and public diplomacy and regularly organizes cultural events that promote intercultural dialogue and collaboration.

We also regularly share information on our website and various social media channels about grants, open calls or awards that might be of interest for students, researchers or artists in Kazakhstan. For example, currently there is a call for applications for the Intercultural Achievement Award (IAA) is presented by the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs. It recognizes individuals, groups, or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to intercultural dialogue and the promotion of cultural understanding. The award aims to honor those who foster connections between different cultures and support social cohesion and integration.
