Over the past couple of years Kazakh music has begun to gain popularity abroad. We present you the artists who don’t perform on tois and play their own music in new genres.
Galymzhan Moldanazar
Galymzhan Moldanazar is a singer, musician and soloist of Moldanazar band, which was founded in 2015. Initially began his activity in 2011, but the fame came to him in 2013. The most interesting is that initially his tracks began to gain popularity abroad, and then in Kazakhstan only.
In 2015 Galymzhan and the American rock cellists Break of Reality band performed together in New York. The guests were Kazakhstanis living in the United States.
The musician is inspired by European music, especially by bands such as Depeche Mode, Coldplay, Muse. Now he has more than 150 songs, some of which have not yet been posted on the network.
The musician and his band mainly perform in Almaty and Astana.
Qonyratbay.fam
This is a musical band consisting of siblings. Sultan-Ali composes music and arranges it, while Khadisha writes lyrics and sings.
The guys are engaged in music from the school. They started with making up covers for the favorite foreign performers and sharing their works on Instagram. In 2015 they met Dias Adil, who later invited the guys to record a joint song, and in a few days the first record called “Kim sen?” was born.
Their first performance took place in 2016 at a small evening of "Moldanazar and Friends", where Galymzhan invited the guys.
Their work had a strong resemblance with works of Radiohead, The XX, Coldplay. They are inspired by synth-pop, indie and folk. Today the band has five full tracks, this month they’re releasing a new track with a video clip. Moreover, they’re engaged in the debut album recording now.
Marhab Sabi
The singer and a poet has a wide range voice. Marhab Sabi gained her popularity after participating in the first season of "Kazakhstan dauysy" contest. She had a lot f achievements like winning international competition called "Slavianski Bazaar" in Vitebsk and Diamond Voice in Prague. Marhaba also writes songs for many Kazakh performers. She’s a fan of Celine Dion, Adele, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.
Her work has directions: modern, rhythmic songs and compositions in the crossover style – a mix of popular and classical music. She performs only at live concerts. Recently Marhaba released a solo album entitled "Osylai", which included seven new singles.
Darkhan Juzz
A young and a talented musician, a singer - Darkhan Dzhunusbekov, better known as Darkhan Juzz, has been writing music and poems from the age of 14. At the very beginning he sang on the Almaty Arbat and continued his activity as a street musician. Later he was noticed and invited to various performances. Recently, the musician conducted an acoustic home-jam on the WE Kitchen.
The musician sings mostly in Kazakh in the Qazaq Indie style. In summer he plans to release a debut album, which will include both known and new tracks of the artist.
Assia Ospanova
Assia has been singing from 4. From the age of 14 she began to write poetry and music. She graduated from the music academy in piano, she plays many musical instruments.
In 2013 she got acquainted with the famous Italian-Kazakh musician Son Pascal, after which the artists decided to start a joint cooperation. Two years later, the musicians released the song "Jol", which became a hit of the Kazakhstan charts and gave Asya popularity among connoisseurs of modern Kazakh music. Together with Son Pascal and other musicians she performed at various events in Kazakhstan.
The singer emphasizes not only modern dance-pop genre, but lyrical compositions of her own composition as well. by the way, they’re accompanied by piano.
A couple of weeks ago, Asia’s debut solo video called "Men seni-kalaymyn" appeared. It starred a professional dancer Madina Bisekeeva. Moreover, the video was produced by Son Pascal.
