With the introduction of the Digital Nomad Visa, Kyrgyzstan joins the list of countries offering special visa conditions for digital nomads — professionals working remotely and leading a global lifestyle. This initiative, launched in early 2024, allows IT specialists, freelancers, and entrepreneurs from abroad to stay in the country for an extended period and conduct internationally-oriented activities.
What is a Digital Nomad Visa
A Digital Nomad Visa is a special type of visa for those who work remotely but want to live temporarily in another country. Kyrgyzstan is one of the first countries in Central Asia to offer this opportunity. The visa is issued for up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension. Unlike regular tourist visas, holders of a Digital Nomad Visa gain access to additional services and support while in the country.
“Digital Nomad Visa offers prospects for attracting remote professionals and simultaneously contributes to the economic and technological development of Kyrgyzstan. With this visa, our country becomes an appealing destination for those who value working beyond borders while enjoying favorable conditions and well-equipped infrastructure. The program still requires adaptation to better meet the needs of digital nomads, but its long-term potential is undeniable. It facilitates experience-sharing and strengthens economic ties, positioning Kyrgyzstan as a part of the global tech community,” — said Chubak Temirov, Deputy Director of the High Technology Park.
How to get a Digital Nomad Visa in Kyrgyzstan
The process of applying for a Digital Nomad Visa is straightforward. Applicants must:
— confirm remote work status by providing a letter from their employer or documents verifying their activity, e.g., freelance contracts
— provide proof of financial solvency to demonstrate the ability to support themselves while in the country.
Visa fees are approximately $250, but the exact amount depends on the duration of stay. The procedure takes about one to two weeks, and applicants can apply online or through a consulate. Once approved, the holder can enjoy the benefits of digital nomad status for the visa’s duration.

HTP and support for digital nomads
Although the HTP does not directly issue visas, it plays a vital role in creating a conducive environment for digital nomads. The visa enables access to a wide range of HTP events, from workshops on emerging technologies to open lectures featuring international experts. Digital nomads can also participate in startup events and networking sessions, fostering collaboration with the local community.
Why Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan has become an attractive destination for digital nomads due to its blend of modern urban amenities and natural beauty. Bishkek, the country’s capital, boasts numerous co-working spaces equipped with essential facilities. Proximity to breathtaking landscapes, including mountain lakes and canyons, also attracts professionals who value an active lifestyle.
Kyrgyzstan is opening its doors to individuals who value freedom, efficient working conditions, and access to a collaborative professional community.
Process for obtaining a Digital Nomad Visa
1. Submit an online application. Applicants must fill out a form on the official website of Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, providing proof of remote work, e.g., a letter from an employer, a freelance contract, or business ownership documents.
2. Provide proof of financial solvency. Applicants must demonstrate they have sufficient funds to live in Kyrgyzstan during the visa's validity.
3. Pay the visa fee. The fee is typically around $250 but may vary depending on the length of stay.
