On foot destinations

The Changing of the Guard— held in front of the Independence Monument in Ala-Too Square, this ceremonial routine is performed hourly and is free to watch.

Oak Park — one of the oldest parks in Bishkek. Lined with shady trees and open-air sculptures, it’s a calm space to relax and enjoy local art.

If you want to get there cheaply, take a minibus from Osh Bazaar to Kashka-Suu village — $1 one-way. The entry fee itself is also $1. Then hike to the Ak-Sai waterfall or enjoy a picnic. Don't forget about an afternoon culture stop: only for $1-3 visit the State History Museum or the Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts. Entry fees are low, and exhibits are surprisingly rich.
