About the trip
I'm always looking for interesting places, unsaid stories and unknowing things. I'm interested in the people of Central Asia. Kazakhstan is a large country, but still has a low culture of modelling.
I stayed in Almaty, one of the biggest cities. We went to several modelling agencies but found most of the people through social networks and street casting. I always spend a lot of time with people before I shoot them. It's a process — I meet them, get to know them, make them feel comfortable. For shooting, I even met the parents of the participants, the models told me about their goals and dreams.
About modelling business
In Kazakhstan, there is real optimism in the promotion of model business. Kazakh girls have an advantage due to exotic appearance. But models often have trouble getting a visa to Europe to continue their studies there or to participate in shows.
I was surprised people in Kazakhstan listen to music that was popular to us ten years ago. And for young people, it is important to have friends.
About youth in Kazakhstan
I shoot young people because I like to show the beauty and freedom of young people. For them, it is an interesting time when they become adults. Many of the people I filmed were married. If you're 25 years old and you don't have a family with kids, there's something wrong with you. It doesn't matter how much money you have here. All live under one roof and respect elders.
