Azat Abyken, from Almaty
On the starting point
Our team made a global travel. We’ve been to London and Hong Kong in autumn, then we flew away to New York, Vancouver, Tokyo, Delhi and Dubai in January and were back in mid-February. It was such a nice feeling to announce that we’re from Kazakhstan! Foreigners do know GGG and don’t remember Borat anymore. Kazakhstanis win abroad and make the country respectful. That’s amazing.
"Nashi Lyudi" project («Наши люди», lit. Our People) is a dream that came true.
We’ve been working hard to make it real
Our team consists of six people. Our commercial director Akzhol Bakhtybayev dealt with logistics, Aizatula was a director, Nurbol was an operator engaged in editing, Alisa was an editor, she helped me improve the speech, Jamila was the photographer at PPZ.KZ, she juggled being a stylist and a makeup artist. "Nashi Lyudi" is a joint project , each of us shared his/her ideas and helped a lot.
On "Nashi Lyudi"
"Nashi Lyudi" is more about being a patriotic program showing that we are a great people living on a big planet. I want Kazakhstanis to be inspired by the program and gather a suitcase saying: Германияға барайық, қазақтар бар ғой осы жерде» (lit. “Why don’t we go to Germany? There’re Kazakhs there”). We call on young people to believe in themselves and the knowledge gained in Kazakhstan as they really can make a great success abroad. We appeal to populate Kazakhstan abroad, but not to move away and develop another country.
The program is unique for all the episodes are different. Viewers will feel it: the episode shot in London is about students and a family, New York episodes reveal Dimash who’s a boxer, the guys doing business with sneakers, and Kanat Bisekeev, a director, whereas there was one character only in India. We created the program intuitively, as wanted to show different people and different professions.
Kazakhs living abroad seem to have anything they want except coat tail and relatives to gather at banquets and anniversaries.
On Kazakhs all over the world
All the Kazakhstanis no matter the country they live in really respect the elders and believe in koz tiedi - evil eye. The most vital to realize is that there’re few of us, so we’d better unite and never quarrel.
