About myself
I like to read, listen to music and meet different people. I’m fond of being outdoors, to fish.
It is important for me to remain kind to everyone.
I can spend hours talking about books. I read many novels written by different authors, I read them mostly in Spanish, though like works written by Russian, Chinese, German, American authors too. I like reading science fiction, politics, also interested in the history of empires, for example, Roman.
I love music. I like absolutely all music genres: classical, symphonic, pop, rock, national.
I’ve been working as a diplomat for about 28 years, and spent most of my life abroad. I’ve been to many countries and cities. Altogether, five years in Germany, four and a half years in Hungary, four years in China, three and a half years in Argentina, two and a half years in Colombia and two years in Honduras.
About Astana
I live about a year in Astana and was pleasantly surprised firstly. I knew a little about Astana – knew that the city is the capital of Kazakhstan and that EXPO-2017 was to be held here.
I used to be a diplomat, but it is in Kazakhstan that is my first mission as an Ambassador. It implies a great responsibility, since the Ambassador is the face of the country he or she presents. I attend important forums, events, ceremonies, and I spend less time in the office. It is important to help others, establish good contacts and be open.
I live with my wife; my children are finishing their studies in Spain. We’re planning their visit to Astana.
I’m not sure how much time I’ll be in Astana, since it does not depend on me. Yet I would like to live here for at least two years.
I try to spend more time walking along the embankment of the Ishim River. I liked the summer laser show.
I’ve tried national cuisine and pilaf. Kazakh meals are tasteful, pilaf reminded me of paella.
Here I came across a language barrier, since I do not speak either Russian or Kazakh. The local people are very open. They like talking at any events, in the street, at the museum. Not knowing my native language, they’re ready to switch to English.
In Spain winter is absolutely different. However, Astana winter isn’t as cold as I expected.
I’ve visited different cities: a beautiful and green city Almaty, Kyzylorda and Borovoy. Russian and American cosmonauts invited me to Baikonur, which I liked too.
Caring people and their life projects
Many things inspire me.
I love my work and love to travel. Indeed, my work gives me the opportunity to get inspired and do what I like.
Current state spirit
I feel calm, I remain optimistic. I have many important things to do.
We organized an exhibition called "Children of War" in the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan - it is about the fate of Spanish children during the Civil War in Spain in 1936-1939 and the Second World War. We present their life stories at our exhibition, which will last until the end of October.
